Man found slumped over steering wheel at traffic light pronounced dead

Prescott firefighters tried to revive a man they found slumped over the steering wheel of his car at a traffic light at Gurley and Sheldon streets Dec. 30, but he was later pronounced dead at Yavapai Regional Medical Center West campus.

When a Prescott police officer answered the call at 6:36 p.m., he found firefighters performing CPR on a man later identified as Allen Martin Dalis, 56, of Muskogee, Okla., who had been found unconscious in the driver's seat of his Chevrolet Cavalier, which was running and in gear, according to the police report.

Officers noted no signs of trauma, suspicious marks, or foul play on Allen's body.

The officer spoke with a clerk at the Circle K nearby who had called police after an unidentified person had come into the store, told them to call 911 about the car stopped at the light, and left.

Officers spoke with a person from whom Dalis rented a trailer in Black Canyon City, and learned Dalis had heart trouble and that his family lives in Oklahoma.

Officers learned Dalis was a patient at the Bob Stump Veterans Affairs Medical Center, found a number for his father, and asked the Muskogee Police Department to notify his next of kin.
