George Edward Kohler of Chino Valley, Ariz., died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Marley House in Prescott. He was 87.

George was born Jan. 30, 1924, at Dubuque, Iowa, to Charles Frank and Catherine Mary (Thoma) Kohler. It was in Dubuque that he attended school, graduating from Loras Academy, where he participated in the ROTC program. He joined the United States Army in 1943 and served until 1946, attaining the rank of sergeant. He married Jacqueline Brammer on June 23, 1949. They had two children, Sara and Doug.

George made a career out of interior decorating. Spending time with his family was one of his greatest interests, especially when it came to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George also enjoyed traveling in his motor home, driving his golf cart, exploring on the quad, railroads, Great Lakes boats, gold mining, and participating in the Yavapai Sheriff's Posse.

George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline; daughter Sara Pitts and her husband Paul; son Doug Kohler and his wife Brenda; grandchildren Tena Pitts, Becky Comstock and Ginger St. Martin and her husband Charles; great-grandchildren Timothy, James, Isabella, Noah and Alyk; sister Catherine Kothe of Dundee, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prescott.
