Thomas Billings

Thomas Billings was born May 29, 1917, in Provo, Utah, and died peacefully in West Des Moines, Iowa, on Feb. 25, 2010.

Tom spent several years in Civilian Conservation Corps in Utah, graduating from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah, then transferred to University of Utah in Logan. After a year, he enlisted in the Air Force. During his college years, he was active in sports and was class president. Tom spent 45 years working for General Dynamics as an aerospace engineer, fulfilling his passion for flying and space.

While in Fort Worth, Texas, working for General Dynamics, Tom met and married Elizabeth Harp and had five children throughout their 40 years of marriage. In 1985, Elizabeth preceded Tom in death. Tom married Mary Ervin in 1987 and spent the last 23 years together living in Santee, Calif., and Prescott, Ariz., enjoying his retirement years playing golf and tennis. Last March, he and Mary relocated to West Des Moines, Iowa.

He is survived by son James; daughters Judy, Betty and Susan; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

His life was an example to all who knew him. He was loving, kind, generous and a man of great integrity. He was dearly loved by all his family and will be missed, but never forgotten.

Services were private on Friday, March 5, 2010, at Greenwood Memorial Park.
