Prescott Valley Police Department officials this week expect to release the names of the two victims in the apparent murder-suicide that occurred inside a home that caught fire on the town's east side Feb. 24.
Sgt. Brandon Bonney, PVPD's public information officer, said Tuesday that forensics experts in Phoenix have spent the past few days examining the bodies of the man and woman found in the house along the 4200 block of Kearny Drive. Those experts have been comparing their findings with the victims' dental and medical records in hopes of making positive identifications.
PVPD investigators had thought that they would be able to confirm the victims' names by Monday at the latest, but have not yet been able to do so.
This past Friday, the Yavapai County Medical Examiner's Office reported that the woman victim suffered a fatal gunshot wound to her head and added that her death appeared to be a homicide.
The medical examiner also determined that the man committed suicide with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
PVPD investigators say the fire that destroyed the home was a case of arson. Bonney added that the blaze appeared suspicious and that investigators determined someone used an accelerant to ignite it.
