Obituary: Charles "Charlie" W. Lewis

Charles "Charlie" W. Lewis, 87, passed away peacefully at the V.A. Hospice in Prescott, Ariz., on Jan. 14, 2010. He was born in 1922 in Edwardsville, Pa., to Albert and Elizabeth Lewis.

Charlie was a WWII veteran, and he proudly served as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Army. His tour of duty was in the Pacific Theater, where he served in Military Intelligence.

After leaving the military, he married his first wife, Kay, and they settled in New Jersey. Charlie worked in the steamship business in New York for the United States Lines where he enjoyed meeting many interesting people over the years.

Charlie moved to Florida in 1973, where he worked for the Pinellas County Parks Department in administration.

Charlie and his second wife, Dolores, moved to Sun City West, Ariz., in 1979 and then in 1987 they retired to Prescott. He volunteered at the Prescott VA Hospital for over 10 years. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Charlie loved to tell stories about his life, and he was a fun-loving, caring father, husband and friend who will be greatly missed.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Karen (Brian) Frutiger of Chino Valley, Ariz.; son John (Julie) Cooper of Mukilteo, Wash.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass for Charlie will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at the VA Hospital Chapel, 500 N. Highway 89, Prescott, Ariz. Inurnment will be at the Prescott National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 237 S. Montezuma St., Prescott, AZ 86303.
