A motorcyclist broke his right leg after he hit a small SUV on Highway 69 at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, a police spokesman said.
Dennis Melcher, 63, of Prescott Valley received treatment at Yavapai Regional Medical Center East Campus for his leg and a minor head injury, said Sgt. Jon Brambila of the Prescott Police Department.
Melcher drove his motorcycle on Highway 69 when traffic stopped for a light at Sunrise Boulevard, near the entrance to Yavapai Hills, Brambila said.
"The driver of the motorcycle rear-ended a Honda Passport in the number two right-hand lane," Brambila said.
The collision ejected Melcher off his motorcycle, Brambila said. Melcher did not wear a helmet, Brambila said.
After the collision, people stopped to render aid, blocking a lane of traffic to keep Melcher safe, since he was close to the roadway, Brambila said.
Police cited Melcher for failure to control a motor vehicle to avoid a traffic accident, Brambila said.
Police closed one westbound lane of Highway 69 for about 20 minutes to clear the scene, Brambila said.
