Charlotte Peters and Donna Holick believe they are barking up the right business tree.
Peters and Holick opened Pet Depot Barkery at 225 W. Gurley St. in mid-May. That's where Holick and Peters sell a variety of items for cat and canine owners.
"It's a fine toy and treat store for dogs and cats," Holick said.
The store features more than 40 different dog toys ranging from soft and fuzzy options to harder toys for dogs to sink their teeth into.
"We have a toy for basically every breed," Peters said.
Among the items Holick and Peters sell are leashes and tasty treats, some of which are organic.
The only thing Peters and Holick don't sell is pet food.
Holick said she formerly owned a pet store in California and came to Prescott about five years ago.
"Prescott is such a dog-friendly town," she said.
Holick and Peters also have a section for cat owners that includes toys, trees, scratching posts and treats.
Peters said they also have kennels in the back room for people to rent for $10 an hour up to three hours as pet owners shop or dine downtown.
The kennels are in an air-conditioned room, and Peters said music plays in the room for added pet comfort.
"That gives them enough time to grab a bite to eat," she said. "We'll go back there and talk to them and keep them company."
From a tray full of sample dog treats to items for dogs on the go with their owners, Peters and Holick's service and knowledge make their store an ideal place for people to shop, they say.
"It's the ultimate toy store for dogs and cats," Peters said.
