Obituary: Donald G. Malek

Donald G. Malek, 84, of Dewey, Ariz., passed away April 6, 2009, at the Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix following a stroke. Don was born and raised in Osceola, Neb., to George and Phoebe Malek.

Don served as a B-24 bomber mechanic in the 423rd Army Air Force during WWII. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He was married to JoAnn Spain of Omaha, Neb. He was employed by Gates Rubber Co., Denver, Colo., for over 25 years until his retirement. Don moved to his current home in Dewey in 1994. He is a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Prescott Valley, Ariz., where he has enjoyed the fellowship of his church family for many years.

Don's passing was preceded by his brother Richard, who is survived by wife, Ruth. Don is survived by his sister Elaine of Munster, Ind., and by his four children, son Michael and wife, Diane of Firestone, Colo.; daughters Mary of Broomfield, Colo., Susan of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Julie and husband, Rick of Cary, N.C.; and his five grandchildren, Naomi and Melinda of Firestone, Colo., Sarah of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Christianna and Eric of Cary, N.C.

A viewing for friends will be at 1 p.m. with a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Prescott Valley, Ariz. His internment for immediate family will take place in Osceola, Neb.

Don was a father and grandfather who was deeply loved by his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
