The Cougars picked up second first win of 2008 by blanking out-matched Tuba City Friday night on the road.
Now 2-1 on the season, Chino has yet to play 3A West Region opponent. Conference favorite Wickenburg whipped Santa Cruz 22-3 Friday to improve to 3-0 on the season, having outscored its opponents 139-9.
Chino's road swing continues next week with a date at Payson.
Salt River 14
Aaron Sullivan was again The Man for Mayer as the Wildcats overcame a first-half deficit Friday night at Salt River.
Sullivan threw for a couple scores, rushed 10 times for 111 yards on the night, had a 55-yard punt return for a TD and also collected 32 tackles on defense.
Salt River jumped on the board first, and later widened its lead to 14-6 in the second quarter. Sullivan connected with Bryce Boyd for a 95-yard TD pass play to knot the game 14-14, after the two-point conversion, by halftime.
Ian Mills rushed the ball 18 times for 149 yards in the winning effort. Blake Ambrose collected 19 tackles on defense. Junior Ontiveros had 17 tackles.
The fifth-ranked Wildcats host St. Paul's next Friday.
