APS offers discount to the poor

Arizona Public Service offers a discount to low income customers that can cut their monthly electricity bills by as much as 40 percent during the summer.

The discounts through the APS Low Income Energy Support Program apply to customers who have household incomes within 150 percent of the federal low-income guidelines. The guidelines go into effect

July 1.

For instance, the maximum income for qualified customers is $1,301 a month for one person and $2,651 a month for a family of four.

To sign up for the program, residential customers must meet the income guidelines. Applications are available at APS and Community Action Program offices, and online at aps.org. For more information, call the Arizona Department of Economic Security at (800) 582-5706 or APS at (800) 253-9405.
