Obituary: Janet E. (Ellingson) Sletten

Janet E. (Ellingson) Sletten, 97, died Sept. 12, 2007, at Prescott, Ariz., where she has resided since 2001. Janet Laurella Henrietta Jensen was born on April 15, 1910, in Dwight, N.D. She was the third of eight children born to Christine and Helmer Jenson.

In June 3, 1938, she married Julius M. Ellingson of Wendell, Minn. Janet and Julius had two children, Janice Marie and Julie Ann. Julius passed away in October 1944. Janet then moved her family to Bemidji, Minn.

In 1951, Janet married Harry E. Sletten of Elbow Lake, Minn., and later lived in Fergus Falls and Battle Lake, Minn. She enjoyed her many friends and was an active member of the business community, receiving the first Battle Lake Civic & Commerce Community Service Award in 1990.

Janet was well known for her delicious baking. She also enjoyed following basketball, decorating,

visiting with her many friends and staying in touch with her extended family.

Preceding her in death were her husbands, Julius M. Ellingson (1944) and Harry E. Sletten (1985). She is survived by her daughters, Janice Kenfield of Prescott, Ariz., and Julie Bartsch of Bolton, Mass.; five grandchildren: Julie Karns, Kristin Sandman, and Greg Sandman of Noblesville, Ind., Dr. Leah Mallory of Portland, Maine, and Vanessa Bartsch Headley of San Carlos, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lenore Compateso and Judy Jessen.

A celebration of Janet's life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2007, at the First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, Minn.
