W. "Dee" Barnes of Chino Valley, Ariz., died Nov. 26, 2007, of a heart attack. He was born Oct. 7, 1961, in Phoenix. He was the son of Wayne D. and Betty A. (Weinbeck) Barnes. Dee was 46 years old.

Dee married the love of his life Carrie Spurlin on March 20, 1988. He was a Phoenix police officer for five years before joining the Chino Valley Police Department in August 1989. Dee was a sergeant for the department and was the second-longest-serving officer.

Dee loved being outdoors and spending time away from the demands of his career - especially on family vacations. Dee enjoyed hunting and was on a hunting trip when he died. He was proudest of his girls. Dee was very active in community; he was a member of the Chino Valley's VFW, Lions, Elk Lodge #2842, the Rod & Gun Club and the Word of Life Assembly of God. Dee was a member of Chino's FOP as well as the state FOP and Arizona Cops.

Dee is survived by his wife, Carrie; daughters Savanah Dee and Hailey Ann; his parents Wayne and Betty; and his sister Cynthia (Ronald) Kee.

A procession will start at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, from Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez, to the Word of Life Assembly of God Church, 590 W Road 1 N., Chino Valley. A celebration of Dee's life will be at 1 p.m. with visitation two hours prior.

Private cremation will be at Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Wayne Dee Barnes Memorial Fund at any Chase Bank.
