Reed Vines

Reed Vines died in Phoenix on March 11, 2006. He was born in Phoenix on Sept. 19, 1929; the youngest and ninth child of George and Cenie Perry Vines.

Reed grew up on a farm near Laveen and attended Laveen Elementary and Phoenix Union High Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Reed loved the outdoors and spent his life hunting and fishing, camping and hiking.  He retired from Atlantic Richfield in 1985 but continued working driving a tractor at various construction sites around the Valley.  He retired again to his mini-farm in the southwest Valley to raise a few head of cattle and tend his garden. Last year Reed totally retired and moved to Prescott with his wife.

Reed is survived by his wife, Kathy; four of his sisters; six stepchildren and a daughter; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, at the National Veterans Cemetery, Cave Creek Road and Pinnacle Peak. Please donate to a charity in lieu of flowers.

Edith "Edie" Miller

Edith "Edie" Miller, 87, was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Verde, Ariz., and made her transition peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Prescott Samaritan Village.

Edie moved to Pasadena, Calif., as a child and was married 40 years to her childhood sweetheart, Bill Miller, who preceded her in death 27 years ago. She returned to Arizona about 20 years ago. Edie was active in the Church of Spiritual Living and she played piano and organ at Golden Age, Granite Gate and the Arizona Pioneers' Home.

She was blessed to have had two great loves in her life, and many enjoyed seeing Edie and her partner of 13 years, Alan Aric, perform at many local events. For the past 20 years Edie composed pop, religious and country songs that have been published, performed and enjoyed by many. Edie was a kind, sweet and loving person, and she was the best mother in the world! She will be greatly missed by all.

Edie is survived by her beloved daughters Sharon Armstong of Lake Havasu and Sue Miller of Los Angeles, Calif. Edie loved children. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prescott Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

It was Edie's wish to be cremated. There will be a celebration of Edie's life sometime this summer. She would send all her love and blessings to you all.

Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
