Letter: Yarnell store owners help boy with seizure

EDITOR:

Our son, wife and 15-year-old autistic grandson recently visited with us in Williamson Valley, on their way to Disneyland.

They left our Prescott home early on Oct. 30, and after passing through Skull Valley, their son Marcus had a seizure. It was his first ever, and neither parent had any idea what to do. They were in desolate country, it was dark outside, no cell phone services were available, and they were both desperately afraid.

They sped west through the dark hoping to find help, and found the Mountain Aire Connivance Store on Highway 89 in Yarnell, owned by Gordon and Jacinda Swet. Jacinda had some experience with seizures, and helped Marcus and the panicked parents while Gordon contacted the paramedics, and arranged for an ambulance.

The Gordons took charge; calming the frightened parents, getting Marcus professional help and resolving what could have been a disastrous situation.

We want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for reacting as they did in these difficult circumstances. They demonstrated the best of personal characteristics in helping perfect strangers in need. The responding medical personnel were equally competent and whisked young Marcus off to a hospital in Phoenix.

The seizure turned out to be a result of low blood sugar and dehydration, and Marcus is now fine - thanks in no small measure to Gordon, Jacinda and the paramedics.
