Letter: Business closings a loss to community

EDITOR:

Another casualty of the recession has been the closing of Schuck and Sons Lumber on Highway 69. Those of us who live from Cordes Lakes to Dewey must now have to shop at Home Depot or Lowe's.

With Young's Farm looking like a weed-filled ghost town, what do we out here have left?

I see from the Lonesome Valley mailbox (newspaper) that Cassies Corner has also gone under. First Mauie Wowie, now the next occupants same location. It is a shame how these folks get sold into a bizarre idea that P.V. is a up and growing town. Shame on the town for destroying folks dreams of succeeding at business in a sinkhole. How much do we need to pay off on that Arena? Any clues to that 30 year deal?

Helen: They got you exactly where they want you. Going to the big Box stores that get taxpayers incentives to build courtsey of the town politicians that are the lapdogs of the land owners who then sell the land and reap benefits. If you must go to Home depot go to the Prescott one. The personnel are more astute and it will help the Grassroots Prescott Valley Citizens Boycott of Chamber of Commerce members. They take a "Grant" every year from their fellow Chamber members in Town Government, This year $115,000.00! It stinks and should not be allowed.

During good times Schuck's staff was always saying our crews come first. That they did not need the walk in customer. They needed to adjust lumber prices the same price for all customers. If they would have kept the hardware store I would bet they still be open.
