Head-on crash claims life of Paulden man

A Paulden man died Sunday after the car he was driving collided with a van on Highway 89 in Chino Valley.

At 7 a.m., police responded to a report of a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 89 and Del Rio Ranch Road, said Commander Mark Garcia of the Chino Valley Police Department.

Officers closed Highway 89 for approximately 3-1/2 hours to investigate and clear the scene, Garcia said.

Officers investigating the collision found that Terry Kinney, 58, of Paulden, crossed the center line in the 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser he was driving southbound on Highway 89 and struck a 2008 Hyundai minivan driven northbound by Tracy Keilman, 42, of Prescott Valley, Garcia said.

"We don't have any other witnesses to the collision," Garcia said. "We have no further information at this time."

Investigators pronounced Kinney dead at the scene.

Chino Valley Fire District crews worked for nearly an hour to stabilize Keilman's minivan, which was on its side, and to get her out, said Rob Zazueta, public information officer for Chino Valley Fire District.

"Paramedics from LifeLine Ambulance were able to care for her while the crews worked on extricating her," Zazueta said.

Keilman was alert and conscious, but had some broken bones. A helicopter flew her to John C. Lincoln North Hospital for treatment, Zazueta said.

Keilman remains in fair condition, said Susan Fuchs, strategic media relations specialist for John C. Lincoln North Hospital.
