CASA for Babies: 'David and Cathy'
The Daily Courier

A CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer is needed to serve as a "Baby CASA" for 2-year-old "David" and his 1-year-old sister, "Cathy." Child Protective Services (CPS) removed the children from their home because both parents had a history of mental health issues, domestic violence and substance abuse.

Among the Baby CASA's responsibilities: Monitoring the children's progress in their foster home, to help ensure that their needs are being met; assisting CPS in working with the parents, to determine whether either of them is able to participate in appropriate parenting, mental health and substance abuse treatment services; participating in monthly meetings with Baby CASA volunteers and other team members to discuss the children's progress and ensure that they receive screening and services for age-appropriate developmental milestones and medical care; working with CPS to identify other relatives who might be able to assist the parents in their efforts to be able to care for the children or to provide an adoptive home, if necessary; and making recommendations to the judge as to the best long-term placement for David and Cathy. CASA volunteers need to provide information to the court at report and review hearings throughout the life of a case.

If you are interested in becoming a CASA volunteer for this case or a similar one, and making a difference in the life of a child, please contact the CASA office at 928-771-3165.

EDITOR'S NOTE: These children's names have been changed to protect the identities of those involved, and these children are not eligible for adoption at this time.
