Fort Verde State Park to conduct Veterans Day flag ceremony Saturday
The Daily Courier

Officials at Fort Verde State Historic Park in Camp Verde are inviting the public to a Veterans Day flag retirement ceremony at 1 p.m. this Saturday.

The park encourages participants to bring their own flags to retire at the park as they pay tribute to the military's fallen heroes as well as those who have served and who continue to serve in the armed forces.

Anyone who can't attend the ceremony and has flags to retire should drop them off at the park anytime before the event.

Fort Verde is located at 125 E. Holloman Street in Camp Verde.

To reach the park from Prescott, take Highway 69 east to Highway 169 in Dewey-Humboldt and turn left. Follow 169 for 15 miles and head north on Interstate 17. Take the General Crook Trail Exit 285 and drive a half-mile to a ramp toward Camp Verde/Fort Verde State Park.

From there, turn right onto General Crook Trail. Take it for 1.6 miles and turn right onto Highway 260. After about a mile and a half on 260, turn left onto South Main Street and then right onto East Hollamon Street. The park's entry station is on the right.

The entrance fee into the park is $3 per person for those ages 14 and older and $1 for those ages 7 to 13. Children up to 6 years old get in free.

Arizona State Parks offers a free annual pass to fully disabled veterans living in Arizona. Active military personnel get in for half-price.

For more information about the ceremony, call the park at 928-567-3275.
