PRESCOTT VALLEY - Police arrested a woman Friday on charges of credit card fraud and identity theft after a family member recognized her in a photo shown on a television newscast.

Prescott Valley police took Delores Rakow, 40, of Prescott Valley, into custody without incident.

Rakow made incriminating statements to detectives about her involvement in the fraudulent use of a credit card in Prescott Valley and numerous other crimes in Maricopa County, said Sgt. Brandon Bonney, public information officer for the Prescott Valley Police Department.

Earlier this past week, Gilbert police said a woman suspected of identity theft made more than 47 charges on a stolen credit card account number. Gilbert released surveillance photos of the white woman with blond or light brown hair and asked anyone who recognized her to call the Gilbert Police Department. Police wanted the suspect on charges of forgery, theft of a credit card, fraudulent use of a credit card and ID theft, said Sgt. Mark Marino of the Gilbert Police Department.

The victim, who lives in Massachusetts, learned the suspect opened a previously closed Visa credit account when a debt collection agency contacted her, Marino said. The victim ran a credit check and found her listed address was changed to one in Gilbert.

More than 47 fraudulent charges occurred in Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Apache Junction, Prescott Valley and Mayer between June 11 and June 23, 2009, police said.

"She just had a tie here, and we were able to catch her," Bonney said.

Prescott Valley police booked Rakow into the county jail on charges of fraudulent use of a credit card, fraudulent schemes, and taking the identity of another.

Bonney said he doesn't know the charges for Rakow's crimes in Maricopa County yet.

She looked much happier when I saw her on TV making those fraudulent purchases. Quite a contrast.

Again, we don't catch the smart ones, or, I guess, real blondes.

Why is there still no article about the local prominate law firm who's bookkeeper was embezzling from them for nearly 3 years. No one at the Courier thought that was an interesting story?

Article comment by: Only wrong if you get caught?

Sure was fun while it lasted...! She was having the time of her life, according to media photos. Why is it that fewer and fewer people have a sense of right and wrong anymore? Why do many criminals feel remorse only when they are caught? Our country is just beginning to reap what has been sown the last couple of generations. It's time to reassess just what is important, and from where our social conscience and values are derived.

What's the big deal. This gal was doing the very same thing Obama, Palosi and Reid are doing, spreading the wealth. Why is she being chastised for taking from the wealthy to enhance her poor situation. Her defense should be that she is just a practicing Democrat.

From the look on her face she didn’t expect her shopping spree would come to an end. Now she can go shopping off the commissary list in jail.
