3/17/2010 10:00:00 PM Letter: Iraqi election not worth U.S. losses
EDITOR:
Some people are happy, even proud, that Iraqi citizens are getting to vote. I am not one of them.
In America, we have people who are hungry and homeless because they can't get jobs, who are sick and dying because they can't get access to health care, and young people who will be handicapped as adults because of a lack of adequate educational opportunities for them.
And yet, our capitalistic economic system has produced massive wealth - enough to solve, or at least ameliorate, these problems. However, we chose to use our wealth to enable Iraqis to vote.
Every time I see pictures of a group of citizens of Iraq standing in line at polling places, I know that groups of American citizens are sacrificing their livelihoods, their lives and their futures to make those pictures possible.
So pardon me if I don't cheer at the sight of all those ink-stained fingers. I think we got a lousy deal.

Norway has brought in more Iraqi refugees than the US. Iraqi Christians have suffered under the US invasion and occupation of their country. Christians of the US, do you love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you? Turn the other cheek? I think the world condemns US "Christians" of not walking the walk. Did the US go to the ends of the Earth to avoid unnecessary slaughter? History will judge you harshly.

Kramer why do you cry about so much? You need a hanky and a nap. When you wake up you can whine about another article. Obviously the courier enjoys your uneducated whimpers. Again please tell us if you and Steele are married as you sound so much alike, you two would make a great couple.

What "core values"? I don't think you can/ could get a consensus on those. Sorry, When was it that the US policy and society followed these "Core Values"? Your math is off , way off. The DOD's own projections are $970 billion this year. Also 23% of the Federal Debt of $12.3 Trillion is from Defense Overrides. That's $2.8 Trillion @ 3% interest per year... = US is ^%$#@*

You complain about the amount of money spent on Defense vice other programs. Let's look at the numbers:
Amount % GDP* Health Care $783.8 6.0 Education $900.8 6.0 Defense $622.2 4.8 Welfare $411.4 3.2 * GDP = Gross Domestic Product
As you can see, Defense Spending is not as high up there and you would have us believe. Healthcare and Education rank higher. So much for your arguments about healthcare and education.
Stop blaming the things that do not have the major effect our Nation’s problems as you finger pointers say they do. Instead, look to those core values that have eroded in our Nation. Those are the things bringing us down.

Iraq's future is now in your laps. Don't stand up and run away. All who supported the invasion should have their assets seized and sold at auction. The proceeds pushed out the back of a C130 over Iraq. Anyone who had a W sticker on their vehicle should be the first to donate.

One third of U.S. adults still think Iraq had a 9/11 link. US authorities President, Vice President, Sec. of State, UN ambassador made 21 statements trying to link Iraq with 9/11. The Congress of the US has NOT declared war in either Iraq or Afghanistan yet our military is there AND in other countries' airspace launching preemptive attacks. Three trillion dollars and counting. Hundreds of thousands of lives and counting. The "evil doers" placed the weapons in your own hands and you have used it to commit state and societal suicide.
