7/16/2007 8:35:00 PM Editorial: Williamson Valley tussel heads to court
In Arizona in the 1880s, it was customary to launch deadly confrontations with the colorful idiom, "Let's start the ball."
The question of whether to widen Williamson Valley Road to five lanes with two lanes of traffic each way and a turn lane in the middle has simmered for more than the past three years.
Now the group Friends of Williamson Valley has decided to "start the ball" with a lawsuit against the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors seeking a temporary restraining order and a preliminary injunction to prevent supervisors from proceeding with the road plan until they comply with the county General Plan.
The people of the area submitted a proposed section of the General Plan to the county for the corridor that excluded commercial development and had a conflicting vision for Williamson Valley Road.
Because of the conflicts, the supervisors kicked the plan back to the local committee.
Now the matter appears headed for the courts. Both sides of the controversy have some valid points, but the root of the controversy may lie in the style in which both have pursued their goals.
Good luck, judge.

Continue to fight...as a "county" resident who has been incorporated into the "city" portion of the Williamson Valley road widening what has happened to us is a disaster. Unfortunately what you are being told and what will transpire will be nothing but lies and arguements.

It will be interesting to see how Williamson Valley Road went from a "C" priority for the county until Carol Springer was elected then it jumped to an "A" project AND funded the same year!
I smell rats!

You should have been here when they decided to pave Williamson Valley Road. . . only got worse when O'dells sold the horse farm and created equestrian estates.
