Letter: Lack of PR shut out best candidate
Sadly, the best candidate will not be Arizona's next governor. Ken Bennett entered the race best equipped in all respects to govern this state, but lacked an attribute, which cost him the position: a campaign.

Letter: Collaboration may boost conservation
The prospect that CWAG and the City of Prescott may be collaborating on water conservation is encouraging. To deal effectively with the current drought and looming water shortage will require coordinated efforts of all the currently competing water users.

Letter: Obama has broken his empty promises
On a warm summer night in August 1974, a small group of key Republican senators met with President Nixon in the White House. Their agenda was resolute: to convince Nixon to resign the office of President of the United States.

Letter: Gaza and Ferguson share factors
EDITOR:

Why is it we can understand it when a community is discriminated against for many years because of their ethnic background and long history of being treated unfairly, when they react with violence against aggression by those controlling power... in this country?

Letter: PV problems have come true
EDITOR:

Louie Lizza ran for mayor during last years campaign. He was called a liar by Mayor Skoog and other members of Prescott Valley's Town Council & Town Employees.

Letter: Rosemont mine has water issues
EDITOR:

Since mining pumps groundwater for its operation, that is sufficient reason to stop Rosemont mining. We are in the midst of a long drought.

Letter: What happened to common courtesy?
EDITOR:

All cellphone users; whatever became of the "social contract"? The quiet courtesy that noted respect for the person or neighbor next to you? Must we listen to your rant, gossip or business?

Members of the Heritage Park Zoo garden committee appreciate Joanna Dodder Nellans for taking the time to visit the new zoo garden and writing the article in The Daily Courier.

Letter: Obama is not Chavez, Stalin or Hitler
EDITOR:

Guilt by association is a common tool in the conservative arsenal. Ed Kahn in his Aug. 13 letter, "Watch out for to road to Socialism," mentions Chavez and Hitler controlling education, Hitler sending Jews and Catholics to the gas chamber, and Stalin sending dissidents to the gulag.

Letter: This theft is just too discouraging
EDITOR:

It is sad when you wake up one morning, look out at your front yard and discover several solar lights are gone.

Letter: GOP can't stand it when things are looking good
EDITOR:

Let's see, a recent Bloomberg report states that there is a shift in the balance of power in the job market. Businesses are adding jobs at such a high rate they need to develop recruiting strategies in an attempt to fill them.

Letter: Generalizations, exaggerations unfair
I considered two of your Aug. 13 letters to the editor disturbingly tinged with hints of classist arrogance.

Letter: Arizonans cherish personal freedom
We recently moved to Prescott. There are many reasons we chose to, but one is the culture here in Prescott and in Arizona in general. The culture, as you mentioned in your article on mandatory helmet laws, is that of protecting personal freedoms.

Letter: Letter about economy unleashed generosity
To all of the people who called me, I can't express my thanks enough, especially to those who offered me money, a new scooter, and a pair of hearing aids.

Letter: Election runup brings out worst of politics
I can't wait till Aug. 26 when this primary election is over. As a registered Republican, I have been bombarded by calls and election information that has disturbed my privacy.

Letter: '19' tribute should be on a more fitting site
A better location for the huge "19" would be on Granite Mountain or Yarnell, where they died.

Letter: P mountain should be in the spotlight
Recent reports about the likes and dislikes of the big 19 on "P" Mountain can be put to rest by just adding some solar lights on the big "P."

I have to strongly disagree with the claim in the Aug. 7 letter from Perry Wien that the cost of healthcare insurance premiums since the implementation of Obamacare has decreased.

Letter: Store personnel were kind to her - and her dog
EDITOR:

With the hideous atrocities that confront us each news day, it's heart-warming to learn of a kindness extended from one human to another.

So let me tell you my story. On Aug. 1, while shopping at the Fry's on Fair Street in Prescott, I became aware of a tightness increasing in my chest

Letter: Obama to blame for flood of illegal immigrants
EDITOR:

The letter by Joe Zarnoch on Sunday, Aug. 10, states that Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu is way off because President Obama has deported more illegal immigrants than Bush and that the major contributor to our current situation is the 2008 law passed under Bush

Letter: Poll workers make Election Day work
EDITOR:

As the 2014 election season is upon us, Yavapai County Elections Department would like to take a moment to honor and thank the 400 plus individuals in our community who have committed to serve as poll workers in our Vote Centers this year.

Letter: Cattle growers' case costing taxpayers
EDITOR:

After reading the article on the legal decision found in favor for the Yavapai county ranchers, the cattle ranchers seem to have won a small decision. If that decision stands, the vast majority of taxpayers in Yavapai County will have to foot the bill for them not paying their fair share of taxes.

Letter: Israel has a right to defend itself
As I recall, the wars between Israel and Palestine since the late 1940s were not started by Israel. Contrary to what Tom Cantlon claims (July 30, "Logic not a factor with warmongers"), it does matter who starts the war.

Letter: Heed the credo of the Statue of Liberty
This response is to Michael Reagan's piece, "Dems myopic in exploiting border crises," and James Di Rienzo's Aug. 7 letter to the editor, "Sending kids across the border, a safe gamble," stating immigration investment (government subsidies) is better than trading stock on the exchange!

Letter: Bill aims to rob seniors via corporate pension funding
The purpose of this letter is to voice my support for the Senate bill for funding highway projects because it does not obtain revenues by extending corporate pension funding relief as the House bill does.

Letter: It's disastrous when religion influences law
It's right in the first Amendment of the constitution -- Freedom of Religion! James Madison, in his "Memorial and Remonstrance," which he presented to the Continental Congress in 1785 and which was agreed to by that congress, made the very case.

Letter: 'Logic' says Gaza must surrender
Tom Cantlon writes for everyone to stop fighting in the Middle East. I'm sure our forefathers would call for the same in WWII. But, the allies didn't seek a truce. They demanded and expended lives for unconditional surrender.
