Kenzie Phelps had a team-best 22 kills and Kate Hammon turned in 15 assists to help lead the Prescott High volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-17, 25-14 road win over Phoenix Moon Valley on Thursday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Phelps also had 11 digs and four aces.
Hannah Graber tallied a team-best four blocks in the win, while Drew Myers had 10 digs.
Next up for PHS (25-2 overall, 10-2 region) is next week's Class 4A, Division I state tournament.
As one of the top eight teams in 4A, DI power points, the Badgers earned the right to host a Tuesday first-round match.
PHS's opponent is TBA.
Men's College Basketball
Ali Sabra made five 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 22 points in Yavapai College's 72-66 loss to third-ranked Midland (Texas) in the first round of the Odessa (Texas) Tournament.
Sabra, a freshman guard from Las Vegas, also had four rebounds and four assists.
Colin Borchert, a freshman forward, finished with 13 points, two rebounds and blocked three shots.
YC will play West Texas today at 2:30 p.m.
Prep Golf
Prescott High's Ian Dunn carded a two-day total of 145 to win the Western Sky Region title on Tuesday.
PHS, which had won the region team title the previous four years, took second to Phoenix Sunnyslope by two strokes.
The Badgers' Alan Davis took ninth and Taylor Robbins was 15th
Justin Shore and Jayson Heatwole played a round apiece, as did Luke Peeples and Donald Bates.
The Badgers qualified for next week's 4A, D-I state meet in Tucson.
Mixed Martial Arts
Saturday's Rage in the Cage competition at the Yavapai County Fairgrounds will feature six local fighters.
Dustin Sanders will fight at 140 pounds; Sam Shapiro will fight at 145 pounds; Danny Hilton and Bill Burke will fight at 155 pounds in separate bouts; Daniel Hampton will compete at 170 pounds and Adam Ekstedt will fight at 165 pounds.
Women's College Basketball
Yavapai College opened the season with a 75-38 defeat at the hands of sixth-ranked ranked Midland (Texas) College in the Lady Chap Tournament in Texas on Thursday.
YC trailed 15-0 to start the game, then 35-11 at the break.
Midland scored 35 points off of 30 YC turnovers.
Julianne Forte`led the Roughriders with 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Lerrin Cook chipped in 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.
