With the defense becoming well stocked this off-season, the Arizona Sundogs turned their focus to the offense on Friday.
The club announced the signing of two-year pro forward Cody Purves for the upcoming 2012-13 season. Purves is the fourth forward the Sundogs have signed this off-season, and it comes after a flurry of defensive acquisitions, including four goalies and two defensemen in a span of 11 days in August.
"I'm excited to be playing for the Sundogs this season," Purves said in a team statement. "Prescott Valley is a beautiful place and it seems like it will be a great town to play in front of. I am looking forward to playing for a successful team and I hope we make it all the way to the championship round."
Purves, 25, will skate in his third pro season when the new year opens Oct. 20 in Allen, Texas. He spent his last two seasons with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL where he also played alongside new Sundog acquisition Chad Nehring.
In 2010-11, Purves appeared in 68 games and posted eight goals and 15 assists. The Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan native, also received the team's Most Improved Player Award that same year. He returned in 2011-12 and tallied 14 points (3 goals and 11 assists) in 44 games.
Prior to turning pro, the 5-10, 185-pound right winger played three years with the Nipawin Hawks of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, racking up 117 points (43 goals and 74 assists) in 147 games.
The Sundogs make their home debut in 2012-13 on Oct. 26 against the Missouri Mavericks. Their active roster is up to 13 players.
