Obituary: Maureen Teresa (Kenny) Daly
Maureen Daly
Maureen Daly

Maureen Teresa (Kenny) Daly, 75, of Prescott passed away on Oct. 27, 2008. Born in Pawtucket, R.I., on Nov. 10, 1932, the daughter of John and Nora (Vizzard) Kenny, she graduated from St. Joseph's School in Pawtucket, St. Francis Xavier Academy and Rhode Island College in Providence and did graduate work at the University of Rhode Island. She taught elementary school in Rhode Island, Virginia and California. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Michael and John Kenny Jr.

On May 25, 1957, Maureen married Lt. (JG) Paul S. Daly, USN, a career aviator. They had five children: Judith Daly of San Diego, Calif.; Colonel Paul S. Daly Jr., U.S.A.F. (Melissa) of Rio Rancho, N.M.; Susan Land (Gary) of De Soto, Texas; Lt. Colonel John J. Daly, USMC (Ret.) (Cynthia), Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Maureen Daly of Tucson, Ariz. They have 15 grandchildren: John, Scott, Katie, Michael, Marissa, Jason, Alex, Pam (Tony), Brent, Matthew, Daniel, Erin, Ryan, Kyle and Shannon; and four great-grandchildren, Abby, Brendan, Isaiah and Connor.

Maureen did extensive volunteer work during her husband's 26-year naval career. She was a wives and ship ombudsman, an interviewer and counselor for the Navy Relief Society, a thrift shop manager, medical clinic aide and office manager for Navy Wifeline publications in Washington, D.C.

When her children were grown she returned to school and became a registered nurse, retiring after 10 years at Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

She continued volunteer work after retirement as a Prescott Art Docent and an auditor with that organization, and was a member of the Eucharistic, Funeral, Adoration and Hospital Ministries at Sacred Heart Church. She was a member of Prescott Fine Arts, the Charter Auxiliary of Fine Arts and Republican Women of Prescott. She especially enjoyed her many years as a Claret and her 13 years with the Legion of Mary.

She was her husband's hostess during his 15 years as Chancellor of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She enjoyed traveling, reading, piano, crossword puzzles, entertaining, spending time with friends, visiting the sick and homebound, cooking, and, most of all, family gatherings.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Paul; their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by her many friends near and far. She will be missed greatly and remembered with love by all. Her Irish eyes now twinkle from above.

A Rosary and Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 N. Fleury Ave., Prescott, Ariz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations in Maureen's name to one of the organizations with which she was involved.

Please visit www.hamptonfuneralhome.com to sign Maureen's guestbook.

Services were entrusted to Hampton Funeral Home.

As in almost any highly successful organization its leader is enhanced by a dedicated spouse. Maureen Daly was an outstanding First Lady for Paul Daly at ERAU PRC.
