PRESCOTT - Yavapai County was chosen to receive $126,409 through the federal Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The money will supplement local emergency food and shelter programs.
Under the grant terms, local agencies chosen to receive grant money must be private, voluntary nonprofits or government units; have an accounting system; not discriminate; have demonstrated the ability to deliver emergency food or shelter programs; and, if a private organization, have a voluntary board.
First-time applicants would be awarded only up to $1,000 to ensure they meet all qualifications and become familiar with the process before being awarded larger amounts. The local board, which includes The American Red Cross, Council of Churches, United Way and other agencies, will consider all applications and award the grants.
