Federal grant to benefit food, shelter efforts
Special to the Courier

PRESCOTT - Yavapai County was chosen to receive $126,409 through the federal Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The money will supplement local emergency food and shelter programs.

Under the grant terms, local agencies chosen to receive grant money must be private, voluntary nonprofits or government units; have an accounting system; not discriminate; have demonstrated the ability to deliver emergency food or shelter programs; and, if a private organization, have a voluntary board.

First-time applicants would be awarded only up to $1,000 to ensure they meet all qualifications and become familiar with the process before being awarded larger amounts. To learn about the rules and limitations before applying, contact Marcie Slay at (928) 771-3321 or go to http://efsp.unitedway.org/efsp/pages/about.htm

The local board, which includes The American Red Cross, Council of Churches, United Way and other agencies, will consider all applications and award the grants.

For an application contact, Marcie Slay at Yavapai County Emergency Management, 1100 Commerce Drive, Prescott, AZ 86305 or (928) 771-3321.

Applications must be received by Feb. 22. Qualified agencies are urged to apply.
