Swine flu vaccination clinic set for Saturday

By Lisa Irish
The Daily Courier

Yavapai County Community Health Services will offer H1N1 swine flu vaccination clinics in Prescott Valley and Cottonwood for anyone who wants the vaccination from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The Prescott Valley clinic will take place at Bradshaw Mountain High School's east campus at 6411 N. Robert Road, near the corner of Fain and Robert roads. The Cottonwood clinic will be at the County Complex at 10 S. 6th Street.

These clinics are open to the general public, so anyone who wants the vaccination can receive it, said Leslie Horton, public information officer and community health education program manager for Yavapai County Community Health Services.

"We're planning on holding these mass vaccination clinics each Saturday in December," Horton said.

Yavapai County Community Health Services Director Robert Resendes said they moved the clinics to Prescott Valley because the high school's large multipurpose room lets people line up and wait inside where it's warm instead of outside in the cold as they did at the first high-risk clinic at the Community Health Services office in Prescott.

The swine flu vaccination itself is free, Horton said.

"We do bill insurance a small administration fee if patients have insurance," Horton said. "If they do not have insurance, there is no fee."

To move through the line more quickly, people should download the required consent and insurance forms from www.yavapaihealth.com, fill them out before coming to the clinic, and bring a copy of both sides of your insurance card if you have one, Horton advised.

"We've had an amazing amount of medical and non-medical volunteers helping out at our high-risk and school H1N1 vaccination clinics," Horton said. "We are truly one of the only counties that have had this response."

"Without the volunteers, we would have had trouble conducting all the high-risk and school clinics," Horton said. "We truly appreciate how they stepped up."

Horton would also like to remind parents that children need two H1N1 vaccinations.

"If kids are 10 years old or younger, they need to wait at least three weeks after their first vaccination to get another H1N1 shot," Horton said.

Parents should bring the child's vaccination card they received at the first clinic to their child's second vaccination clinic, Horton said.

Check flu clinic schedules at www.yavapaihealth.com or call 442-5613 in Prescott or 639-8139 in Cottonwood before any scheduled clinic to assure vaccine availability.

It is possible for vaccine to run out during a clinic because of heavy demand or a vaccine shortage, Horton said. In that case, Yavapai County Community Health Services apologizes for any inconvenience, she said.

Lisa's opinion is not up for debate, but she assumes ours is? Neat. Armed with only her conviction and the use of a gender specific first name (as if "Lisa" says anything more than "no name" or "Sources Please") she eschews the sharing of facts because they only get in the way of her belief. The sad thing is I might very well agree with the underlying sentiment of her comments, but I'm not going to jump on the anti-vaccine bandwagon because of conspiracy theories, anecdotal evidence from teenage girls, and completely unsubstantiated claims about women miscarrying. The fact that Lisa even used those as examples demonstrates the depth and breadth of her "research". Thanks for sharing Lisa. It's been enlightening.

Most of your responses in regards to my commits are close-minded in nature, which is fine. I am not here to prove anything, nor will I argue my opinion for it is not up for debate. Your ability to even consider the possibility that this vaccine is causing irreversible damage to the public is your choice, which I stated in my original response. It's MY opinion based on my research and study... let it go. On the other hand, I find it interesting that most of you leaving commits don't even leave your real name... you hide behind some pseudo name which in itself is cowardly. You discredit yourself when you fail to provide a name when forwarding your opinions. Man or woman up, people. What are you afraid of?

Lisa, I'm with you on the shots, but anecdotal evidence from a teenager is not reliable...

Lisa - your reply to my query for reputable sources is a joke. I actually did some searches and found nothing substantial re: your claims. So I asked for your assistance. Your dodging the issue merely confirms the lack of substance re: your facts. Let's forget the inane and unsubstantiated statement you made about pregnant women miscarrying because of the vaccine. I'm extremely curious about this epidemic of HS children passing out. How horrific! My significant other teaches at a local H.S. so I know it's not occuring there. Pray tell, where is this calamity happening? Why haven't we been informed (I know, government conspiracy!)? I'm also wondering what kind of training you and/or your daughter has that leads you to state with any authority these (supposed) faintings are related to the vaccine? Patiently waiting for a serious response. Sincerely: Your "Dear" (you were so cutely condescending) Sources.

Nothing is ever free; "As always with pandemic flus, taxpayers are footing the $1.5 billion check for the 250 million swine flu vaccines that the government has ordered so far and will be distributing free to doctors, pharmacies and schools." Cost can be interpreted as the value of money or life. Again, nothing is ever free. And to my dear "sources," you seem intelligent enough, do your own research such as I and come up with your own conclusions. And with regards to my daughter, she is the most credible source, for she has witnessed.

Leave politics out of this or have you NOT watched the news to hear that people have died from this or any other flu. It is your CHOICE to have or not to have the shot. No one has scared me into doing anything and least of all the Democrats. But I bet if a REPUBLICAN or RUSH told you to you would do it! ALSO It states that this shot is FREE.

WOW...talk about your conspiracy theories. Look people. Over 1500 people have caught this flu in Yavapai County alone and some have died. (check the Arizona DHS web site) We still haven't hit the height of flu season yet. I am not advocating a panic response but we should be reasonable and responsible. Of COURSE the vaccinations are still continuing just as the regular flu vaccinations are continuing. The vaccines are safe. Believe me...if you get either strain of flu you are not just sick for a few days. You are horribly sick for sometimes WEEKS and some healthy young people have died. Dont let these paranoid ravings keep you from protecting yourselves.

Yeah, it isn't like a flu shot is a life or death situation. If you get the flu you're sick for a day or 2, maybe 3. Big deal, huh? If it's worth the time and trouble or $25 go for it. If not deal with it if you get sick.

Calm down people, it's just a flu shot. You don't have to get one if you don't want to.

Lisa, I'd love a link to a reputable source corroborating the pregnant women miscarrying and it's relationship to the vaccine. HS students randomly passing out because of the vaccine? Again, a source other than your daughter would be appreciated. Thanks!

The Democratic Administration pushed the epidemic (idea) to the limit to try to enhance a reason to support NATIONALIZED health scare. It backfired when it became obvious the Government couldn't even get flu shots right so what else about health care can't they get right? A two seat PIPER CUB airplane crashed into a cemetery and the government is still investigating because so far they have discovered over 100 bodies around the crash site.

Why are we STILL vaccinating? There is no epidemic or state of emergency. The CDC has even changed the jargon of H1N1 to "ILI" which means "Influenza Like Illness." Come on people, can't you see that big Pharma is behind all the hype. More people die everyday from MRSA... People, don't buy into everything the government tells you, they have an agenda, and that is to support big Pharma and their lobbyist. Do your research... There are reports that pregnant women receiving this vaccine are miscarrying hours to days after having had the vaccine. I can only imagine the long term affects it's going to have on the children...the very group of people the CDC is encouraging to get the vaccine. Look at the scientific studies done outside of the government, they are not skewed or changed to reflect anything but the truth. DO your homework and then you be the judge. My daughter just informed me that students at the HS, after receiving this H1N1 vaccine, are passing out at random days or weeks after having the vaccine. Hmmmm... coincidence? I don't think so.
