Prescott, Prescott Valley file special action against SRP to get hydrology studies
The Daily Courier

In a continuation of a legal dispute over access to public records, Prescott and Prescott Valley recently filed a special action against the Salt River Project seeking the utility company's Big Chino-related hydrology studies.

In earlier actions in Maricopa County Superior Court, the two governments filed a legal complaint against SRP to gain access to information that local officials say relates to the company's claims about the Big Chino sub-basin.

City Attorney Gary Kidd said the recent filing was a "follow-up of the original lawsuit seeking some of the material that we were requesting."

Earlier, the focus was on annual auditor letters, and the recent filing pertains to hydrology studies.

Kidd added that he expected a hearing to take place on the matter in Maricopa County Superior Court on Dec. 2.

For years, SRP has objected to the plans by Prescott and Prescott Valley to build a 30-mile pipeline to import water from the Big Chino Water Ranch northwest of Paulden, and the two sides are involved in a number of legal disputes over the project.

SRP action only serves to reaffirm how “skewed” and “stacked” the deck is as well as how secure SRP feels in rebuking “our” attempts to gain access to what “we” believe is public information. The question I have, is this information we seek actually information in the public domain or because SRP can wear the mantle of a for-profit-corporation (artificial legal person) declare such data solely proprietary…? Moreover, I suspect there is not one governmental agency from the Governor’s office, Attorney General office, ADEQ, ADWR or State Legislature with large enough “stones” to demand SRP produce this requested data unabridged. “We” may, at a time chosen by SRP, get data, but would I trust it to be unabridged….? Choosing to remain both … OSTRICH & SHEEP … we can only expect more of the same. When “we” own that all authentic power resides with “us” and “we” VOTE from a position of awareness, the political landscape will change almost immediately. Respectfully, PAUL F MILLER http://waterman99.wordpress.com

Article comment by: But YOU Are not allowed to VOTE!

The Rolex Ranchers and Cowboy Mafia want water! Water = MONEY$! Get it? The rest is damage control, politician control, and media control and mind control. YOU GOT YOUR BALLOT ON THE BIG CHINO WATER PIPE LINE YET? Nope... didn't think so, and you won't because you are dumb enough to vote them in, get took by them, but too dumb to have a voice or vote in a $200,000,000.00 + project. So anyone out there sniveling about "we need water" is a lapdog, developer, land owner or parasite carpetbagger looking to get fat off the people's Verde River. Check the recent Crimes in the paper? going up! and you ain't seen nuttin yet!

no name...are you pretending that SRP isn't participating? Tom steele, you do like to go on and on about things that don't exist. Try focusing on reality. So, SRP is doing the citizens a favor eh? They are trying to claim all the water, while you are only worried about a reduction. Paulden does not need that kind of help, so take it somewhere else. Tom, what happens if your fantasy population of 75-80,000 people decide to move here in spite of you being here? What happens if no one new ever moves here, and we just keep pulling water out of the little Chino aquifer. You talk about Paulden wells as though Chino wells were not already a bigger concern.

Wait a minute- it seems the city wants it both ways. They want to restrict SRP from participating as a party in any and all law suits regarding the pipeline yet they want SRP to disclose proprietary information that would have been available if SRP was a party? What does Prescott & PV really want?

While I have little to like about Maricopa County, the fact the SRP is fighting the Big Chino Pipeline(BCP); we citizens should be in support of them. Water is a finite resourse with Mother Nature being the only supplier. To "take" from the BC Ranch will reduce ground water from Paulden wells and, later, reduce the flow of the Upper Verde. The taken water will then be used to build 25,000 or more homes in the Prescott and Prescott Valley areas adding 75-80,000 people who will have a demand on our water supply; FOREVER! No, the SRP is doing citizens here a favor unless you are a developer-Land Baron of course. Wake up people!
