ADOT: Federal stimulus money gets road construction moving
The Daily Courier

Money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act currently is fueling road projects around the state, according to information from the Arizona Department of Transportation.

ADOT reports that 17 federal stimulus-related projects currently are under construction statewide, and two more are already complete.

On Friday, the state awarded contracts for more projects. The State Transportation Board approved a number of contracts for Recovery Act projects during a special telephonic meeting, adding to the 40 contracts already approved.

"A total of 51 Recovery Act projects have been advertised to date," stated a press release from ADOT.

Two Yavapai County projects were among the ARRA projects that the state approved Friday, including:

• Highway 69 - repaving from Humboldt to Highway 169. Contractor Grady's Quality Excavating won the $391,355 contract.

• Highway 89 - bridge deck repair on Hell Canyon Bridge. Contractor Bison Contracting won the $317,429 contract.

A local project also was among the early ARRA projects. ADOT reported that the Highway 69 repaving project between Cordes Junction and Mayer began on June 30 and finished up on July 31 - the first of the federal stimulus projects to wrap up construction.

Fann Contracting of Prescott, which won that $1.9 million contract, completed the project about three months ahead of schedule.

Along with improving the state's highways and creating more than 6,000 construction jobs, ADOT says, the ARRA projects also have produced millions in savings when comparing the state's estimates to the approved low bids.

you people need to stop bitching...you complain about the the mexicans and blacks doing these jobs but yet when the chance falls in your lap you refuse to pick up a shovel or stand in the sun for 15 hours a day flagging on these projects...i am 100% pure american and i stand in the blazing sun 12-15 hours a day flagging or laboring...but yet im not bitching....you people just give up when it gets tough and say it's not for me or i can't do that....when hired for a job you're told the job description...if you dont like it then dont take it...but if you take it you better be willing to work...

The recovery and reinvestment act is a joke! Part of this program is supposed to provide JOBS for AMERICANS. I have been in the construction industry for decades. I have even worked in a position which allowed me to see these contractors in action. The vast majority of their laborers are ILLEGALS and NOT Americans. When are you Americans going to wake up and smell the scams? Take a ride down I-17 and see how many blacks or whites are working on that major road project. Pay attention in your own area and observe the same. The contractors are in business to make a profit. They can't meet their greed by hiring Americans and paying them their just wages. There is no czar making sure that this money is in fact helping the millions of unemployed Americans and not the illegals. I can't wait until this nation is bankrupt and we finally decide to bring her back where she should be.

What about Highway 89 between Prescott and Chino? ADOT studies this section every couple years and it gets an F rating everytime. Stop doing studies and widen it!
