AZ militia support intensifies with bill's defeat
The Associated Press

TUCSON - The recent defeat of legislation that would have created a citizens' border group is driving up support for Arizona militias.

The Arizona Daily Star reports the state's border-militia groups are seeing members becoming more motivated after plans for a state-sanctioned organization were struck down in the Legislature.

Leaders of volunteer patrols along the Arizona-Mexico border said there is an invasion of smugglers and illegal immigrants that needs to be stopped. Supporters say they are giving up on getting assistance from lawmakers.

Jack Foote, a longtime Arizona border-militia leader from Cottonwood, worked with the group that penned the bill.

"We have now washed our hands of our state's Legislature," Foote said. "Now we are going to do things our own way."

The proposed bill would have established a 300-member, armed Arizona Special Missions Unit to guard the border at the governor's request. A provision in the bill included screening volunteers to weed out violent extremists.

Critics of the bill say a border militia is extremist in nature.

Mark Pitcavage of the Anti-Defamation League said extreme behavior is no longer found on the fringes of militia movements.

"Some are explicitly white supremacists," Pitcavage said. "The others may not be white supremacists but may well be racists."

Arizona militia groups were recently in the spotlight after Jason Todd "J.T." Ready, a known neo Nazi and border-militia leader, shot and killed four people before turning the gun on himself. FBI officials were investigating Ready at the time. He had most recently led a group known as the U.S. Border Guard. James Turgal, the FBI special agent in charge who oversees Arizona, said Ready's shooting of his girlfriend and her family members was "a domestic violence tragedy" unrelated to his political activities.

A regeneration of border-militia movements would contradict an earlier trend reported by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks groups it considers right-wing extremist. The center said earlier this year that the Minuteman border-watch movement that exploded in southern Arizona in the last decade has virtually disappeared. The study concluded the decline was due to its members' concerns about illegal immigration have been adopted by state lawmakers.

Pat King, a rancher who lives near the border, said she has accepted help in the past from Minuteman groups. King said the group now uses cameras to report illegal activity rather than conduct patrols.

"You have to be very careful of who joins your ranks, that you don't trash the whole organization," King said. "Some people can join and have their own agendas. That gets kind of frightening."

Thank you for taking the time to provide this information. It certainly provides a better support for your statements than did your previous posting.

Normally I will not provide any facts or figures to you as all you wish to do is find fault and play the denial game, while avoiding obvious truths. Typical of Obamanauts.

Even defenders of the 'official' estimate of 12 million illegal immigrants acknowledge that it is flawed, and clearly the actually figure is over 10 million higher, but the magnitude of the flaw is greater than anyone in Washington DC is willing to admit.

However, from figures taken from the Canadian Foundation for the Americas (FOCAL) in 2009 there are currently up to 30 million Mexican citizens living in the United States and Canada at least 12 million are undocumented.

Nearly 300 million Mexican citizens cross back and forth from Mexico into the United States, thru 47 points of entry, or illegally via ports and desert, annually. The population of Mexican citizens living in the USA has dropped roughly 12% since 2009.

The Illegal Population Explosion: A Realistic Appraisal of its Actual Size, Implications for the Future, and Consequences for Public Policy Decisions and Citizen Activism," was released at a News Conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Experts who contributed to the 45-page study explained their findings that illegal aliens in the U.S. total at least 20 million, but perhaps as many as 38 million or more -- which far exceeds 8 to 12 million estimated by Homeland Security's Office of Immigration Studies new report, "Estimates of the Unauthorized Immigrant Population Residing in the United States, January 2006" (released August 31, 2007, see http://www.dhs.gov/ximgtn/statistics) .

Regardless, we know the population of Mexico is approximately 112 million. Ten percent of that number is around 12 million. So, even by your denial and minimized figures of 12 million, 10%, or one in ten, Mexican citizens live in the USA number 12 million. By the more accurate estimate of 25-30 million citizens of Mexico in the USA, that means 1 in 5 Mexicans reside (legally or illegally) in the United States.

I feel that even 1% illegal immigrants, or those holding dual nationality, is too much. Much more 10-12 million, that you (and other apologizers) seem to feel is fine.

Here are some other statistics from the LA Times newspaper in 2002, that I am sure you will dispute as well.

1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10.2 million people)

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans at US expense.

5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally

6. Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on public welfare.

7. A large percentage of the United States annual population growth is illegal aliens.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal, and paid for by US taxpayers.

9. The IRS has paid out $10 billion in refunds to illegal aliens who used fraudulent Social Security numbers, and it has no intention of going after those who made fraudulent claims.

10. Over 3,000 illegal aliens suspected of murdering Americans have fled to Mexico, where they often live openly and without fear of arrest.

Please provide the source for your figures: "30 million illegals" and "1 out of every 5 Mexican citizens" live in California and North Carolina. Most estimates of illegal aliens are in the range of 12 to 20 million. Furthermore, the Pew Hispanic Center estimates that there are a total of 12 million Mexicans (6.1 million illegals) live in the United States. This is not even close to 1 in 5.

You libs and lefty moonbats are all the same, spouting the same talking points, while pretending some lofty goal while serving as foot soldiers for Obama-esque politics.

Saying there is no illegal alien problem in the USA, while up to 30 million illegals -mostly from Mexico- live here is silly. Why do you suppose Mexican politicians campaign in California and North Carolina.? Because that is where up to 1 out of every 5 Mexican citizens live.!

You Obamanauts say there is no more invasion ongoing from the south, and that a militia guarding the border would not help. So I ask: If there is no longer any illegal traffic across the Mexico / US border, why would you care if a group of militia members patrolled the area.?

Since you say they are not gonna find anything...right.?

Same with Voter ID. Since you libs all say there is no such thing as voter fraud by people unauthorized to vote, often because they are not US citizens, then what is the harm in requiring identification to cast a ballot.

Since you say no illegals are voting anyway...right.?

Same with welfare benefits, Social Security entitlements, WIC, unemployment checks, free medical care, and public education being received by illegals (who often claim IRS tax exemptions on non-existent kids supposedly living in Mexico and thus receive billion$ in tax refunds) at the expense of Americans.

Since you say no illegal aliens are drawing any of these benefits, I guess you would not mind if ALL such payments were stopped unless the recipient could provide proof of US citizenship.

Since you say no non US citizen are drawing the monye anyway...right.?

The economy sent a lot of these people away. I've met a few of them, and they wanted to work. They could barely get a day's work per week and they split. They're not sitting around like royalty collecting welfare every month. All this talk about forming militias is starting to seem more and more psychotic. Brewer's spending a fortune on basically nothing. Looks like SHE'S the one draining the coffers.

The tragedy out of Gilbert a few weeks ago may have been an isolated incident. It may or may not reflect how the typical militia member can be expected to view our state, but honestly, none of them will ever be allowed to carry a gun in my home.

you not noticed that the border is no longer the issue it once was. The border has never been more secure. The border patrol has been beefed up. The mexican government is actually doing more on their end. The incentives are down due to better enforcement of illegal employer hiring and less jobs that are available in general. Let's start looking at ourselves instead of at the immigrants. Lets stop using illegal drugs that are an incentive for smugglers. Let's buy american, even if it costs more, to rebuild our economy. Seriously, there is only a handful of illegals standing on street corners these days, it used to be a crowd. Let's get our eyes back on the prize. There was somewhat of an invasion five years ago, but not today.

GO TELL THE SPARTANS Could you imagine that sight, 300 Tea Pots marching through the hot Arizona desert, in search of Jose the day-laborer. Can you see it, a bunch of old white headed (people) and a handful of ... skinheads sweating outside Nogales. A most frighting sight to behold.

Why does the Federal Government not give bounties for turning in employers who employ illegals?
If the citizens are encouraged to assist government in enforcing the law, the law breakers will be fewer.

The exact opposite of the headline is true. When your bill is defeated it is proof positive that your position is weakening.

The so called Arizona embarrassment is coming from the leftist progressives. The real embarrassment is the acts of Eric Holder and the Obama administration as they fail to protect our borders as they are sworn to do. And the continued blockage of getting to the truth of the "fast and furious" ATF plan to get registered guns into Mexico where they could be an example of the need for more oppression of firearms in America. No, our right to form militias comes from the lack of integrity in our federal government to do right by the U S Constitution.

Yeah, anyone that believes our immigration laws should be enforced is racist. Sure they are.
Actually, the new definition of racist is "anyone winning an argument with a liberal".

It is a fact that there are now fewer illegal Mexicans coming across the Az border than there are returning home. So what's the point. A bunch of unemployable misfits who want to be testosterone macho guys. As Pogo said, "We have met the enemy and he is us." Just another line in the endless list of Arizona embarrassments.
