Meet the LD1 candidates: Lori Klein
Lori Klein
Lori Klein

Name: Lori Klein

Age: 59

Party, for how long: Republican since about 1974.

Birthplace: Ridgewood, N.J.

Years in Legislative District One/Arizona: Moved to Anthem in 1994, owned cabin in Breezy Pines area of rural Prescott since 1995.

Occupation: Owner of Lori Klein & Associates, which specializes in fundraising for non-profit issue advocacy and limited government projects. Worked on several ballot initiatives to limit government including the successful Prop. 207 in 2006 to limit government's imminent domain powers, health care freedom initiatives in 2008 and 2010, several initiatives to repeal the state income tax, and several school choice initiatives.

Political experience: "As a freshman legislator I've worked on political issues important to the future including education, such as empowering choice through a voucher system. I authored a bill that would allow parents to replace public schools with charter schools but it was killed by House leadership, along with several other Senate bills I supported."

Other experience: Worked in Washington, D.C. from 1976 to 1994, including national director of development for Americans for Fair Taxation, research for the Republican National Committee, executive assistant to the National Association of Realtors lobbyist, worked for former Rep. John Myers of Indiana, etc. Also did public relations for the Washington Times, lobbyist for the American Land and Development Association, worked for World Anti-Communist League, and for the "bullets and beans" effort to help the contras in Nicaragua.

Education: high school.

Top 3 issues facing district: Jobs/economy, water issues and education reform.

Why are you running for this office?

"Legislative District One is a very conservative area and I would serve it well. I got a lot of encouragement from local conservatives, especially since I'm an expert on tax reform. This year the Legislature had a unique opportunity to approve conservative bills dealing with unions and pension reform but House leadership killed them. I was hailed as a 'Champion of the Taxpayer' by Americans for Prosperity with an 82 rating this year, while Speaker Tobin's rating was 'Friend of Big Government' at 49."

This one is a real enthusiast for right-wing ALEC written bills. Pretend Conservative, act in accordance with the billionaire and corporate funded secretive lobby and legislative mill. She's not just an enthusiast, she's a member and on the Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee of ALEC.

Pull!

It's bad enough that we have Andy and Karen. Don't be fooled by the folks in ALEC back pocket!
