Company donates wood chipper to aid Yarnell group's recovery effort

YARNELL - The Yarnell Hill Recovery Group received a much-welcomed donation of a commercial wood chipper on Thursday.

Paul Adams, president of Vermeer Sales Southwest Inc. out of Gilbert, donated the refurbished BC 1000 to the group. The chipper retails for more than $14,000 used and $34,000 brand-new.

"It's an opportunity to give back to a community that suffered so deeply, not only with the tragedy of the fire, but the loss of the 19 Hotshots," Adams said. "We felt that it was going through the right door."

The chipper was given to local landscaper Ken Headrick. Headrick lost his commercial chipper in the Yarnell Hill Fire.

Headrick and Yarnell Community Center Executive Director Scott Shephard asked the company to lend them a chipper to help with clean-up efforts after the fire destroyed more than 100 structures. Neither Headrick nor Shephard expected to receive such a generous donation.

"The replacement of my chipper was unexpected and appreciated," Headrick said. "Having the chipper will allow me to assist in Yarnell's recovery. I have always tried to support our community, and having this chipper will allow me to continue to do that."

Vermeer Sales Southwest Inc. out of Gilbert, saw a need and filled it. What a great thing to do. Every day I'm amazed at how kind folks are and so often we only hear from the "grumps". KUDOS to Vermeer Sales Southwest for your kindness.
