It's not too late to sign up for the Sharlot Haul ride and barbecue Saturday to benefit Sharlot Hall Museum.

In addition to the rides and meal on the museum grounds, the event will offer face-painting for kids and raffles throughout the day, too.

For $30, riders will have the opportunity for a morning ride, receive an event T-shirt, a goodie bag with discount coupons, energy bars and a chance to win a Trek 29er bike donated by High Gear Bike Shop. This prize, valued at $900, includes a helmet and rack.

Barbecue attendees will be treated to the folk sounds of Cheek2Cheek and Salt of the Earth, as they dine on a meal from Jubes BBQ. Raffle tickets for the bike are $10 each or five for $40. The winner does not have to be present to win.

The rides begin at 7 a.m.; the barbecue is 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; and music from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Applications for riders and barbecue and raffle tickets are still available at High Gear Bike Shop, 505 E. Sheldon St., Sharlot Hall Museum, 415 W. Gurley St., or El Gato Azul restaurant, 316 W. Goodwin St. Completed applications can be dropped off at all three locations.

The event still needs about eight volunteers to help. Email thesharlothaul@cableone.net or call organizer Barry Barbe at El Gato Azul, 445-1070.

"Sharlot Hall Museum is a huge asset to Prescott and often overlooked," Barbe said.

The Sharlot Haul intends to "bring awareness of the museum to the community. It will get families there to see what the museum offers and to see its accomplishments."

Barbe noted Prescott's "pockets of culture," such as Sharlot Hall Museum and Smoki Museum, that "we don't appreciate as we should."

This is a departure in fundraising for Sharlot Hall. Principal credit should be given to High Gear Bike Shop, which rounded up most of the sponsors and has supported the event directly.
Others' contributions have been minimal by comparison.
