Mayer firefighters put out a fire that started at 5:28 p.m. Monday in a bicycle storage and repair shed at the Orme School.
"School employees saw the fire and called us. When we arrived at the scene, the shed was fully engulfed in flame," said Glenn Brown, fire chief for the Mayer Fire Department. "We had the fire under control in 10 minutes."
Firefighters found no one injured or near the 10 foot-by-20 foot shed that was not attached to any other school buildings, Brown said.
Preliminary calls indicated a fire in a hay barn, and Mayer Fire Department called Central Yavapai Fire District to help, Brown said. But when Mayer firefighters saw the small shed on fire, they cancelled their call for help to Central Yavapai Fire District before the firefighters arrived, Brown said.
Firefighters reported no injuries at the scene.
School officials said they thought someone smoking in or near the shed may have accidentally caused the fire, Brown said.
Brown estimates the fire caused about $1,000 in damage to the shed and the bicycles inside.
School officials said they probably will not replace the shed and may look at tearing the other ones down, Brown said.
