CHINO VALLEY - Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 42-year-old Chino Valley man after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's house Wednesday night and threatened people with a handgun, a press release stated.

Deputies arrested David Brandt after responding to a family fight at 11 p.m. in the 2500 block of Willow Breeze Drive. The woman told the deputies Brandt had brandished a handgun and began fighting with a male family member. Brandt fled before deputies arrived.

The woman told deputies that she awoke earlier that evening and found Brandt inside her bedroom after everyone, including her two children, had gone to bed. She noticed a handgun in his pocket, grabbed it and ran to the other end of the house to alert family.

Brandt then chased and caught her as she awakened an adult family member, wrestled the gun from her and activated the firearm's slide, which ejected two rounds.

As he tried to load another magazine into the handgun, the male family member tried to subdue him, the press release stated. The woman then grabbed the gun and fled the room while the unidentified man fought with Brandt and forced him from the house. The man learned that Brandt bit him during the scuffle.

Deputies recovered the weapon and searched the area with the help of Chino Valley police. After about 45 minutes, Chino Valley police officers found Brandt hiding behind an electrical box near the home.

Brandt resisted arrest before officers handcuffed him. Deputies booked him on four counts of recklessly handling a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and assaulting law enforcement employees.

He remains in the Camp Verde jail on a $1 million bond and is due in court Thursday, according to sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn.

Those abrasions on his face are not from the arrest, they happened a few days before. Don't judge. David was one of the most wonderful husbands and fathers and I was very proud to be his wife for 12 years. Unfortunately he became addicted to alcohol and has made some bad decisions. He needs your prayers and support not your judgement

I have known Dave for about 15 years. I'm speechless to read about this. I have known him to be a very nice friendly person, never meaning to harm anyone. It just proves to me that you never truly know anyone and what they are capable of doing, especially under the influence of alcohol. I am saddened to hear this news and will have Dave and his family in my prayers!

I know Dave as a kind and gentle, but very possesive person motivated by a alcohol addition, surprised he was not charged with drunken disorderly conduct as well. 1m bail is a sign that Dave might be going away for a long time. both he/his as well as EX girlfriend/her families can use our prayers now more than ever. Cops are humans and need to use force at times, hope it was not excessive.

Hey no name where did i blame anyone? i did read the story. And i understand he fought people at the house but i also understood he resisted arrest. have you ever seen police be gentle to someone who is armed and dangerous. It is possible he was injured by the cops while resisting arrest. ycso and chino pd were doing their job and if this (guy) got hurt in the process that's his problem. When i said the cops had fun with this guy i meant they probably had to force him to the ground to get the cuffs on.

"Why we have Cops:" I'm not sure JM85 was saying this was a BAD thing. Personally I think he looks like he's in pretty good shape for all the scuffling he was involved with. I do hope his ex-girlfriend got in some good ones!

Excellent example of why we have law enforcement officers out there protecting us! The next time you liberal thinking-ACLU supporting-tree hugging-cop bashing-"time out" babies want to bash the cops think about this lunatic entering your home and attacking your family. Great job YCSO and CVPD!!!

Ummmm, read the story JM85, he fought with family members at the home. Even bit one of them. But some people can't wait to blame cops.

Too bad he wasn't taught a bigger lesson. He will be back. The court system will slap his wrist as always.
