Bus tour to educate residents about Big Chino Water Ranch
Special to the Courier

The Town of Prescott Valley and City of Prescott plan to host a bus tour June 1 to the Big Chino Water Ranch project.

The municipalities scheduled the tour to educate residents about the multimillion-dollar project to pipe water from the ranch 18 miles northwest of Paulden to Prescott and Prescott Valley. Some environmental groups are challenging the project, contending it would endanger the flow of water to the Verde River downstream.

The tour will take place from 7:30 a.m. to noon June 1, with tickets costing $20. Organizers advise interested individuals to buy tickets by May 27 to ensure a seat on the air-conditioned Prescott Transit Authority bus.

Participants may buy the tickets at the cashier's desk on the second floor of the Prescott Valley Civic Center, 7501 E. Civic Circle, or at Prescott City Hall, 201 S. Cortez St.

They also may send payments to the Town of Prescott Valley, Attn: Lea Duke, 7501 E. Civic Circle, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314.

People who mail payments may obtain tickets at the departure location at 7:30 a.m. June 1 at the parking lot of the Manzanita Grille, 1 Perkins Dr., Prescott.

The tour will include several stops on the way to the ranch. Organizers urge participants to bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Extra water and light refreshments will be available.
