PRESCOTT - Eagle Scout candidate Daniel Nelson is following in both of his older brothers' footsteps.
Those footsteps lead to the Arizona Pioneer Cemetery, where the two older Nelson brothers completed their Eagle Scout projects.
On Saturday, Daniel and about 20 other volunteers removed the weeds and dried grass from the Sharlot Hall and Ritter Family areas.
In the enclosure containing the grave of Sharlot Hall and her husband, Daniel and crew removed the weeds, raked and smoothed the ground.
"We are putting down ground cover and gravel in the Sharlot Hall area," the Scout said.
In the Ritter Family section, the volunteers removed the dead grass and weeds and raked the ground.
The crews reconnected parts of the wire fence surrounding the two sections before applying a new coat of paint.
Cemetery officials decide what project they would like Eagle Scouts to complete.
Daniel organized the project, gathered donations and recruited a work crew. Once all the plans were set, Daniel's main job was to lead and direct the work crews.
Daniel, 17, is a senior at Prescott High School. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 9, sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
LDS Bishop Todd Bertoch said the church helps the Eagle Scout candidates "all the time. Today's volunteers are all young men and their fathers. Getting the fathers out is no problem, but getting the boys to come out and do this is the neatest thing. These projects build character and the boys learn how to work."

Kudos to Daniel for his patriotic work!
I volunteer at Sharlot Hall Museum and know that she never married. Please check the info on their website for historical accuracy in reporting. Thank you.

There you go again, Courier, changing history.
Sharlot Hall was NEVER married, therefore the person buried next to her can't be her husband.

Good work by Daniel and his helpers, but I do not believe Sharlot Hall ever married.

Nice job, Daniel and fellow scouts. I don't know who is buried next to Sharlot Hall in the Pioneer Cemetery but it's not her husband. Sharlot Hall was never married.

Thank you for the job well done Daniel! Your parents and your Pack must be proud. You’re a fine example of what the Boy Scouts of America is all about. Through scouting boys and young men learn to become good moral citizens. They volunteer their time and effort to help other people, and to better their community. Thanks to your brothers, and everyone who volunteered. “Do Your Best” Ralph Rodarte, Tiger Cub Leader, Pack 958, Den 4, San Diego, CA.
