911 cell phone bank collecting retired phones
The Daily Courier

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office announced their partnership with the 911 Cell Phone Bank to raise money to help support Sheriff Steve Waugh's "Right by Kids" Child Safety Program and to provide emergency communications for citizens in need.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office will collect used cell phones in the community which will be turned over to the 911 Cell Phone Bank for processing. In return, the 911 Cell Phone Bank will provide the county with the cash value of the collected cell phones as well as free emergency cell phones.

Residents and businesses are urged to drop off used cell phones at Prescott Sheriff's Office, 255 E. Gurley St.; Camp Verde Sub Station, 3505 W. Highway 260 or Village of Oak Creek Sub Station, 6446 Highway 179, Suite 217.

Cell phones contain hazardous materials that don't belong in a landfill, so don't throw them in the garbage. Those old cell phones can provide needed funds for "Right By Kids" as well as emergency communication for seniors in need and victims.

For further information, contact Deputy Scott Reed at 771-3260. For stories of how emergency cell phones can help people, see http://newsletters.911cellphonebank.org/true-stories.html.
