10/27/2004 7:00:00 AM Williamson Valley Road reconstruction Public Works sets discussion date
The Yavapai County Public Works Department is sponsoring a meeting to discuss reconstruction of Williamson Valley Road. Phil Bourdon, assistant director of Public Works, said design concepts will be on display for the reconstruction of Williamson Valley Road from Pioneer Parkway to Outer Loop Road. The public is welcome to attend the meeting, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The meeting will be at the Public Works building located at 1100 Commerce Drive in Prescott. Bourdon said reconstruction is necessary because of the deteriorating condition of the existing pavement. "We're seeing some failures and a lot of cracking out there," he said. Representatives from Civiltec Engineering and the county will offer information and design ideas for the roughly seven-mile stretch of roadway. Additional turn lanes, wider shoulders and other safety improvement options are possible, said Bourdon. "We've been doing a good job of maintaining it up to this point," he said. "Right now we want to get that two-lane section in better condition for the traveling public." Yavapai County Supervisor Chip Davis said growth in the area has been "astronomical." Davis said the reconstruction design should handle the narrow lanes and lack of shoulders in that stretch of roadway. Bourdon said about 8,000 cars per day go through the intersection of Pioneer Parkway and Williamson Valley Road. Another 2,000 to 3,000 vehicles per day use the intersection of Outer Loop Road and Williamson Valley Road. "That is a heavy portion of the roadway," Bourdon said. "It's well used."
