The Yavapai Cemetery Association presents the annual Memorial Day observance at the historic Citizens Cemetery. The ceremony includes patriotic speeches by local officials and dignitaries; music by the Veterans Memorial Piper, High Mountain Chordsmen and Prescott Brass Ensemble; presentation of flags by Camp Verde Cavalry and Arizona Rough Riders; flag raising, volley and “Taps” by American Legion Post 6; community procession and attendance by numerous veterans organizations and living history groups. The historic Citizens Cemetery was founded in 1864 and contains the graves of more than 3,000 Yavapai County pioneers. Veterans of numerous wars, including the Civil War, are interred in the cemetery. Parking is available in the nearby Yavapai College parking lots and surrounding streets. Bring a chair for your own comfort. Free admission.
