Archbishop Rutherford Johnson of the Archdiocese of the Southwest will be visiting St. John's Anglican Church on Sunday, Aug. 1.

The Sunday Communion service is at 10 a.m. and will be co-celebrated by the archbishop and the church's rector, the Rt. Rev. Dennis Massey.

Johnson's homily for the visit will be "St. Peter's Chains and Freedom in Christ."

St. John's is one of the newest churches in the Anglican Diocese of the Southwest. The congregation meets in the Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel on the corner of Navajo and Valley in Prescott Valley.

Services are open to the public and anyone interested in attending is welcome.



St. Paul's Guild will be having its annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, and Saturday, Aug. 7. You can get bargains on clothes, housewares, books and more. The sale is indoors and outdoors, rain or shine, at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 600 W. Hillside Ave., Prescott. Proceeds from the sale will help church renovations and missions and local charities, such as Birthline, Horses With Heart, Stepping Stones and DAV.



The Prescott Valley Aglow Community Lighthouse will be meeting 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Sun Gate Villa Senior Community Living Apartments, 3850 Civic Drive in Prescott Valley. Aglow looks to encourage and establish a network of praying women. Join us for coffee, tea and rolls followed by beautiful music and praise and worship.

The speaker this month is Tanya Muse. She was born in Hawaii and has lived in Dewey, Ariz., for many years. She is pastor and president of the "Coach Connection Women's Prayer Ministry," based in the Prescott area. She is now teaching, training, and encouraging women to pray and stand strong in the many battles they face each day.



Dr. Richard Mercado Sr. will be preaching a series of revival messages at the 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, worship meetings and at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, through Friday, Aug. 13, at Open Door Baptist Church, 8451 E. Stevens Drive, just south of Mountain Valley Splash in Prescott Valley. The public is invited and encouraged to attend, whether you speak English or Spanish.

Western Fun and Craft Fair sponsored by the Youth Center of the Center for Spiritual Living Church is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28. The church is located at 3755 Willow Creek Road in Prescott, across from the ERAU entrance.

"Living Beyond Yourself: Exploring the Fruit of the Spirit" by Beth Moore is a 10-week interactive Bible study as presented in the book of Galatians and concentrating on Galatians 5:22-23. The study is from 10 a.m. to noon and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 9, through Nov. 18, at Willow Hills Baptist Church. Beth walks participants through each trait and encourages women to know the freedom of a spirit-filled life. Cost of the workbook is $16. For more information, call 445-5520.



Women of Wisdom, an interdenominational Christian fellowship of Bible teaching and Bible studies for women of all ages and backgrounds, is now taking registration for their fall 2010 session. The new session begins on Wednesday, Sept. 15, and meets for eight weeks, until Nov. 3. WOW meets on Wednesday mornings from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at American Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, Prescott. Scholarships for class materials are available and free childcare provided.

The program for WOW each Wednesday morning includes coffee time, praise and worship music, prayer, a first-hour Bible teaching and your choice of a small-group Bible study or fun "potpourri" class.

The WOW fall 2010 session morning program will include a first-hour teaching by Pastor Mary M. Bope titled "Prayer-Does It Make Any Difference?" The second-hour elective classes for the fall session include a potpourri class and "Love, Laughter & Learning," in which participants will learn to knit while watching Bible teacher and humorist Liz Curtis Higgs on DVD. Other second-hour electives are: "Passionate Prayer," "Walking in the Will of God," "40 Days of Love," "The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children," "Lord, Where Are You When Bad Things Happen?," " Eat the Cookie and Buy the Shoes," "Stepping Up: A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent," "Too Busy Not to Pray," and "Digging Deeper."

WOW evening classes include "The Power of the Praying Woman" and "Digging Deeper" (men welcome). Evening classes are in conjunction with American Lutheran's Soul Café. An inexpensive family meal is served beginning at 5 p.m.; everyone is welcome.

Christians in Recovery is a new support group that focuses on abstaining from self-defeating behaviors within a 12-step context. The group, led by Joe Byrne, meets every Friday at 6 p.m. in the Deborah Room of Prescott United Methodist Church (PUMC), 505 W. Gurley St. The recovery process involves using the 12 steps as a spiritual discipline that helps participants deepen their faith and trust in God's will, according to Byrne. The goal of the group is to promote personal growth and spiritual enrichment for those who are seeking recovery from addictions or the traumas of their past.



Tough Times is another weekly support group designed for those who are out of work or under-employed. The group meets at 11 a.m. on Mondays in the Upper Room at PUMC. Michael Gerdes and Pastor Carol Mumford are co-leaders for these sessions that review resources and provide guidance for job-seekers.



Saving Grace Lutheran Church LCMS is now located at 2607 S. Highway 89, just south of the roundabout, in Chino Valley. Worship service is at 9:30 a.m. Sunday and Bible study at 11 am. The non-denominational Harvest Bible Chapel of Prescott hosts multiple men's and women's mid-week Bible studies, weekly youth groups for mid-high and senior high students, and more than 20 weekly small groups. For more information about the church, call 771-2450 or visit harvestprescott.org.



"Out of Recovery and Into Living Your Dreams" is a new support group helping people in recovery to take their lives to the next level. Kathy Williamson, author and speaker from Wisdom for Living Ministries, teaches this weekly group from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at the Oasis Ministry Center, 440 S. Montezuma, Prescott. The Chino Valley and Paulden Area Ministerial Association works in conjunction with St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Salvation Army to help people in need. Volunteers staff the organization, and they welcome any help from new volunteers. The association helps people with various critical housing and living conditions. CrossPoint Free Will Baptist Church hosts the "Friendship First" program on Wednesday nights for grades one through 12. Families and their friends are welcome. For more information, call Pastor Chris Fannin at 499-1754.



Orchard Ranch RV Park is having church services at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday with Chaplain Ken Swenson conducting the services. Everyone is welcome. Orchard Ranch is located between Dewey and Prescott Valley on Highway 69.



Join fellow sisters in Christ for a time of intimate worship from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays at the Academy of Performing Arts, 392 Butterfield Road in Chino Valley. This class is free to all women ages 10 to adult. For more information, call 636-2007.



Producing warm hats and scarves for the homeless is a year-round project for the knitting and crocheting group at Prescott United Methodist Church. The group meets at 10:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays each month in the Upper Room of the church at 505 W. Gurley St. Everyone is welcome, and group members are willing to coach beginners. Donations of yarn are always welcome.



Brother Bill Davis, a trained and certified biblical counselor, is available for counseling on personal and domestic issues. He is a member of the Open Door Baptist Church of Prescott Valley and a member of the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors. Davis is the director of Biblical Family Guidance, a ministry that applies biblical answers to today's problems. For information, call Davis at 925-7384.



The Heights Church of Prescott is offering a Bible-based support group to women struggling with the aftereffects of abortion. All information is confidential. Mountain Valley Church of God Christ-Centered 12-step drug and alcohol recovery program and cancer support group entitled "Redeeming Grace" meets Saturday evenings with a short church service and sermon, including music. Pastors Tom and Nova Forrest will lead the service. Immediately after the service, attendees will break into separate male and female groups for the 12-step program and the cancer support program.

The Redeeming Grace service will be at 6:30 p.m. each Saturday at Mountain Valley Church of God, 8123 E. Manley Drive, Prescott Valley. Childcare will be available as needed. For more information, call 772-5713.



The Firehouse, an after-school program and a ministry of "En Fuego," the youth group at Prescott Free Methodist Church, is open from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. The Firehouse gives students a place to go after school to work on homework or class projects and to have fun with friends. There are monitored computers for homework and research, games and quiet rooms for studying. There will always be a minimum of two or three adults on the premises.
