Prep Football: No. 12 Bears rally, advance to state tourney quarterfinals
The Daily Courier

The 12th-seeded Bradshaw Mountain football team kept its Class 4A, Division I state title hopes alive and kicking with Friday's 31-28 come-from-behind upset win over No. 5 seed Peoria in the Valley.

"This is one of our top wins (in my tenure)," BMHS coach Chuck Apap said. "The kids played with great character and great intensity."

The Bears, who had lost to Peoria on the same field earlier this season, fought back to tie the score 28-28 with 34 seconds left in the third quarter on a 1-yard Mychael Eikenberry touchdown run.

Two possessions later Andy Rosas drilled a field goal from close to 40 yards out to put the visitors up for good.

Rosas had missed just left from 42 yards out on the previous possession, but he made the adjustments and came through when he had to.

Eikenberry had 134 yards on the ground with two TDs.

Bears quarterback Tyler Audsley rushed for 117 yards with a score, while John Kelley had 34 rushing yards with a TD.

The Bears will play in the Tucson area in next Friday's quarterfinal.

They'll face No. 4 seed Vail Cienega, who were 51-14 winners over No. 13 seed Nogales.

To no name provided, I am a Proud Badger Mom and I wish the Bears the best of luck. I am very proud of our boys this year, it just wasn't our time. Please remember these are still young men who love the sport , and played with all their hearts, they do not deserve your disrespect. Your team has accomplished a lot, and you should be proud.

29 teams start, 8 are left. BMHS should be extremely proud. Win or loose, this years football team has played with character. Each one of the boys out there deserve credit for meeting the challenge. It has been a pleasure to watch them all year long. GO BEARS....

They did not really come from behind. They dominated most of the game and then fell behind and came back and finished what they started. It was 21-7 Bshaw at half.

This was a great game. Audsley was by far the better QB in this game out dueling Peorias 1st team all region QB. This is a different team with Rosas back on the field. He's invaluable. It was also awesome to see how many Bradshaw fans showed up for the game with horns, cowbells, banners, and enthusiasm. It felt like a home game. I hope the band makes it's way down to Tucson next friday because they certainly got the place going crazy. Great job players and coaches, well done. Anyone got a desire to taste some bobcat meat???

Great Job guys keep getting after it. buy the way how did Prescott do last night? Oops I forgot they were at home playing Madden football on Playstation or XBox because they did not make the real playoff this year. Hhm wonder if the bears had anything to do with them not making the playoffs this year. Can any Prescott fans or players remind me what happen that night they played. GO BEARS.
