The Yavapai County Elections Department issued no new information Wednesday on the Chino Valley Unified School District override election Tuesday that defeated the district's bid for a budget increase.
Elections Department couriers were late in getting the final ballots back to the department Wednesday. As a result, they were still counting the ballots turned in Tuesday at the two drop-off ballot boxes. Karen McCracken, registrar of voters, said the county had 106 ballots in the CVUSD election to count in addition to the ones in the Sedona, Clarkdale and Jerome elections.
The school district sought voter approval of a 15 percent maintenance and operations budget override. However, an unofficial count Tuesday night showed 3,883 voters voted against the override, compared to the 2,069 who favored it.
The unofficial count showed that 5,752 voters cast ballots out of the 11,550 persons eligible to vote for an unofficial voter turnout of 51.5 percent.

Not always as It seems
At least 1 of those ballots couldn't be mailed back in because my son is in the military and didn't get it in time. I'd say that's the only good excuse for not being able to mail in a ballot.

common sense conservative
After some relatively laborious digging, I am still steadfastly opposed to the override. Winning is good. I like a fair fight based on the merits of the issue. But this voter turnout for a mail-in ballot is OUTRAGEOUS. In my opinion, Chino Valley has bigger problems that no amount of money for its school district is going to cure. I feel like I won a fight with one hand tied behind my back. I feel cheated...
