PRESCOTT - With winter rains approaching, the Prescott Creeks organization is gearing up for its water-quality monitoring program.
The group plans to monitor area creeks for basic parameters, such as temperature and flow and nutrients and bacteria, including DNA sourcing of the bacteria.
The Prescott Creeks group needs volunteers for field crews that will collect data and water samples approximately once a month. The organization also needs volunteers to organize and enter the data.
Prescott Creeks, in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and the Sierra Club Sentinels, will conduct a training session for water-quality monitoring volunteers on Jan. 30 at the Prescott College Crossroads Center, 220 Grove Ave.
The training will provide information about parameters and pollutants of concern, field collection procedures, and field safety. It also will include a hands-on equipment demonstration in the field.
The group is requiring an RSVP for the volunteer opportunities. More information is available at the organization's website at www.prescottcreeks.org, or by calling 928-445-5669.
