12/1/2009 10:23:00 PM PV council to consider energy code
The Daily Courier
PRESCOTT VALLEY - Come next July 1, builders here may need to comply with an international building code that is designed to increase energy conservation in construction and remodeling work.
Adoption of the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code appears on the agenda for the Town Council Thursday. The council garnered support for the code from Sandy Griffis, executive director of the Yavapai County Contractors Association, during the council's work/study meeting Nov. 5.
The 2006 code is the "benchmark" for many other energy conservation recognition programs, such as Home Performance with Energy Star, according to a report to the council from Community Development Director Richard Parker.
By adopting the code, the town will meet code compliance expectations of many grant programs, Parker wrote.
The energy code is one of a few items that the council will consider at a meeting that starts at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers on the first floor of the Civic Center, 7501 E. Civic Circle.
Other items on the agenda are:
Reappointments of Karl Russell and Robert Cohen to the Municipal Property Corporation.
Appointment of Nicole Russell to fill a term on the Planning and Zoning Commission that expires Oct. 31, 2010.
The proposed annexation of 2 acres on 5th Street 400 feet south of 6th Street at the request of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A request from the Polland Family Trust for a zoning map change from residential to commercial for 16 acres next to the west side of Highway 69 between Village Creek Boulevard and Bradshaw Mountain Road.
A contract amendment with CH2M Hill OMI for $75,000 to replace and install valves and fire hydrants for the water distribution system.
A resolution to support formation of a Greater Arizona Mayors Association that will consist of members from Yavapai, Coconino and Mohave counties.

We've been "Greening" for decades; and paying for it. Now it's your turn. As of January 01, 2010, we stop until the rest of you (the world) catches up.
Have a nice day!

Happy in PV
Seems to me if everyone was allowed a fixed amount for their heating/cooling they would find their own way to reduce fuel needed. Just because a person has cash dosen't mean they can distroy the earth. By only allowing a home so much gas or electric the home owner would need to decide for themselves to build 2,000 SF or 20,000 SF. After all there really are only so many dinosaures to go around.

NOTHING BUT SPIN
NO NAME DEC. 2, Why do you care what I pay, or any other person pays for their energy? ... This is all about grant money, Parker admitted it in an earlier story. Wise up people, do you really need the government to tell you what to do, and how to live. If you do, there are more than enough commie countries to move to.

Well "no name provided", for your short sighted view, maybe you should do some research on this ill gotten energy code junk. Contractors have been building energy efficient homes for years without some misguided government telling what materials to use. This energy code does not produce any more efficiency structures than have already been built. All it does is provide more money for the government with grants and what not. The whole "Green" thing is nothing but a Huge hoax on the public and another way to create more regulation on your head. I'm sure that you just love Al Gore and the EPA. They love you too because its folks like you that are so naive, that give them millions of dollars. Wake up and pay attention because if this continues then you are going to be visited by the Energy Code Nazi's and forced to spend lots of money to upgrade.... I am sure you could not afford to do that in this economy.

What we need is an energy code that addresses the multi-million dollar homes being built that have an energy bill that is more than my mortgage payment.

Seriously?
I would encourage all of the out of work contractors to attend this meeting and tell the PV council where they can stick their increased regulations...
Looks like the local politicians aren't getting the message that we want less government intrusion and red tape!

Awesome! Shortsighted people whining about how much it will cost them rather then take a long range view of how more energy efficient building practices will benefit everyone later on. Typical.

so by increasing the cost to potential home buyers to meet these requirments the city will be able to apply for and receive more grant money? will they then in return give that money back to the home buyers? i dont think so! just call it what it is, another tax!!!

So, the cost of housing doubled or in some cases tripled when The County adopted this ill begotten code. The City of Prescott adopted the Code and further increased the cost of building by forcing it onto remodels and additions and now PV is considering the same control of their buildings. The sad truth about this code is that is nothing more than a money maker and control tool for the governments. These entities have no idea what to do with it and provide no training within other than to create more and more inspections. They jump on a band wagon to purchase a new book produced by "ICC" and adopt some fantasy code so they can dictate to the populace another power trip of regulations. The contractors who have to comply with junk code should be speaking up against it before its to late. The building departments or municipalities that want to adopt it should have their personnel fired and replaced with some common sense thinking people instead of the sheep that rule now. I say you should be speaking up against this ever increasing, ill gotten regulation of your lives people. This is nothing more than a lobbyist attempt to get their agenda placed into law so some one can get rich off the backs of the working man.
