10/15/2009 11:49:00 PM Crown King Apple Festival is Saturday
Crown King's fourth annual Apple Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17, promises fun for the entire family in old-fashioned country fair style.
Crown King's original one-room schoolhouse will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for tours. Students will tempt visitors with tasty desserts on their cake walk and will enlighten guests with local history. Beginning at 8 a.m., the Crown King Café will serve a pancake breakfast.
For $5, a fun-filled day is in store for children, who will be able to choose and decorate their own pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, play games, go on a treasure hunt, ride the hayride through town, dip and decorate apples at the General Store and more.
The Crown King Fire Department will teach children how to be "fire wise" and become junior firefighters. For an extra fee, children can pan for gold at the Prospector Mall.
Adults can count on activities for them, too, perusing arts and crafts booths and the new Crown King Historical Society exhibit. And, at 4 p.m. the Mill Restaurant plans an apple bake-off.
Crown King is located high on the southern tip of the Bradshaw Mountains. Take the Bloody Basin exit on Interstate 17 and carefully follow the signs along approximately 30 miles of rough road. Organizers recommend SUVs or trucks. For more information about Crown King and directions, log on to www.CrownKingAZ.com.
