Deputies arrest man after chase, search Thursday
The Daily Courier

MAYER - After a search that lasted almost five hours, Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man Thursday evening in Spring Valley near Mayer.

According to a YCSO spokesman, the domestic violence suspect may have been targeting family members while fleeing deputies who were in pursuit at around noon. Deputies eventually called off the pursuit as the chase entered a populated area.

Deputies, following investigative leads, located the suspect in Spring Valley and took him into custody without incident at around 5:15 p.m. The YCSO has not released the man's name yet.

Spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said "upwards of 10 deputies" were involved plus K-9 units as the search for the suspect included stopping vehicles in the Spring Valley area.

"It was important that we catch him and so the deputies are really glad that he's in custody," D'Evelyn added.

It is not like TV big college grad. They may have a picture but that does not mean they have a name. No big computer to tell them a name 2 seconds later. Try making your building more secure and don't blame the cops when you are broken into. Are they supposed to watch just YOUR business. SICKOFITALL you need a reality check. I do not think YCSO is perfect by any means at all but they do a good job for the most part. So they read your plate wrong, you have never mistaken something. You could always just go down and talk to them. I believe their office is near yours. You also are expecting them to do their job but complain when/how they do it. Go on a ride along with them. You will learn what they do. Something you did not learn in college. I know I did when I went on a ride years ago. It gave a new perspective. Good Luck

We do live in a free country and I am entitled to my opinion. So why the personal attack on me? I wonder what your opinion would be Mr. Good Job YCSO if you were robbed 4 times and 4 times absolutely nothing was done about it. I wonder how you would feel if you called 911 and nobody ever came. I wonder how you would feel if you were holding a 8x10 photo of a guy cashing your forged check and wiping out your bank account. And nobody seems to know who he is. The name of my shop is "Get Lit Candles" right behind Family Dollar.

I don't have much faith in YCSO anymore since I was stopped last year for expired tags that weren't expired. The deputy didn't even know what year it was. And what's wrong with owning a shop in Mayer? I am retired now and I enjoy what I'm doing and I like living here. Some people just have too much time on their hands.

What a world- the cops can only arrest them. The court system lets them go with probation or release them early from jail. It all starts with the liberals that dont think we should do anything to them and the cops are always wrong. They want to let the criminals go. Look at the posting from sickofitall. Perfect example.

Trained to drive at high speeds? come on. There have been so many injuries and deaths related to speeding police cars that it is a ridiculous argument to make. Even if they were trained, it is not about them it is about conditions out of their control. Speeding is against the law for a reason and the police are subject to the same laws as everyone else for the same reason.

Good Job YCSO: I am right there with you. People can dog on police and their high speed pursuits but give their job a shot. I wish police would be MORE aggressive. If you run from police you are not obeying the law. Period! Police should have used the PIT maneuver on this guy the second he started to run. If it would have killed him, big deal. What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. Nice job YCSO!

Article comment by: I see your point, but...

I agree that speed can be a problem when pursuing a felon, but consider this: They are trained to drive at high speeds and under adverse conditions AND, more importantly, the man had threatened to kill his wife and children.

Yep...they zoomed by my shop at a zillion miles an hour and right on past a day car center and the charter school. Not to mention all the chickens that cross back and forth across Central Ave. all day long. It's not like we have such a big town with lots of escape routes or anything like that. Slow down YCSO!
